Reading Literate Machine Stuff on Your Mobile Device

What you see above is the free preview of Jesus Hates Zombies rendered on my iPod Touch using the $2 app Mobile Finder. Mobile Finder for the iPod Touch or iPhone can easily transfer and read PDF files. While it can't read CBR and other comics-specific file formats, those can be converted to PDF with a little work. Sadly, it does not have book-marking capabilities for PDF files.

For ebooks, a better solution is Stanza, which is free, reads PDF and other ebook formats and has bookmarking and many other useful book-reading features. Unfortunately it can't handle image-only PDF files, making it useless for comics and artwork.

The Stanza desktop app can also convert PDF files into the Kindle format, as can other free programs. Meanwhile, less expensive than the Kindle is the Sony Reader Digital Book, which can read PDFs natively. CBR and CBZ files can be read on the Sony Reader by converting them to LRF, and the PDF or LRF can then also be converted into the Kindle format. Note, however, that both the Kindle and the Sony Reader are black and white devices, so there will be no color.

There are also a number of applications available to read PDFs on Blackberry devices.

In short, there are many ways to get Literate Machine content onto your mobile device for enjoyment on the go.
